The Alfred Radiology service offers bulk billed diagnostic and interventional radiology with very short waiting lists, to the general public in Melbourne. Our state of the art facility has expanded into the brand new $90M Alfred Centre and includes:

(MRgFUS) MR guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery

MRgFocused Ultrasound Surgery is a new technology to treat women suffering with uterine fibroids non-invasively.

FMIG has recently begun offering ExAblate 2000, which combines Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Focused Ultrasound energy to non-invasively treat women with symptomatic uterine fibroids. It is an outpatient procedure with a very low rate of complications and most women return to their daily activities within a day or two.

Over 5000 women with symptomatic uterine fibroids have been treated around the world and 92% reported symptom relief improvement. Patients treated with ExAblate missed fewer days of work, returned to normal activity and spent fewer days in bed.

MRgFUS combines high intensity focused ultrasound that heats and destroys targeted tissue, non-invasively, and an MRI system which visualizes patient anatomy and controls the treatment by monitoring the tissue temperature in real time. Focused ultrasound generates heat, ablating tissue only at the focal point.

We are pleased to inform you of this new option that is now on offer for women who suffer from symptomatic uterine fibroids and who are reluctant to choose a more invasive option for treatment of their fibroids or who otherwise may not be suitable for hysterectomy.

Dr Andrew Dobrotwir
Dr Dobrotwir specialises in MRgFUS, MRI, Ultrasound, CT, and Women's and Paediatric Radiology. He is the Director of Radiology at the Women's Hospital.

Dr Paul Lau
Dr Lau specialises in Cross Sectional Imaging including CT, MRI, Ultrasound and interventional procedures.

Dr Anthony Taranto
Dr Taranto's fields of speciality include MRI Imaging of the Head and Neck, Brain, Spine, Female Pelvis, Rectum and Musculoskeletal system and holds a special interest in the relatively new technique of MRI Breast Imaging and Biopsy. Dr Taranto is skilled in all imaging modalities including imaging guided procedures and biopsy. He is also a past lecturer in Musculoskeletal Imaging at University Victoria.

Dr Nitin Gupta
Dr Gupta is skilled in all imaging modalities offered by FMIG, including Imaging Guided procedures and biopsies.

Dr Anusha Naidoo
Dr Naidoo is the most recent Associate to join FMIG. She is a Fellow of MRI, General and Breast Radiology
