St Vincent's Launceston has been serving the needs of northern Tasmania since 1944. It's since grown to a 92-bed not-for-profit facility, serving a population of over 120,000.St Vincent's offers a full range of medical and surgical services including Pre-Admission Clinic, Day Surgery Unit, Mobile Lithotripsy Unit, Endoscopy Unit, Home Nursing Service, High Dependency Unit, and Sleep Studies Unit. Radiology, nuclear medicine and pathology services are also available on-site at the hospital.

All patients at St Vincent's enjoy comfortable surrounds including recently refurbished patient accommodation with individual air-conditioning in each room, a beautiful rooftop garden, and restaurant-style meals with the focus on healthy food using fresh local produce.An innovative pre-admission clinic was introduced by the hospital in 2001. Results have been very positive, as the clinic enables patients to have a better understanding of the hospital experience prior to admission.

One key strength of St Vincent's is palliative care, with its firm commitment to enhance the dignity and quality of life for patients during the later stages of incurable illness.

NORTH WEST REGIONAL HOSPITAL

The North West Regional Hospital is situated in Burnie on the north west coast of Tasmania.

Staff provide high quality health care and specialist services to a population of around 106,000 spread over north west Tasmania and King Island.

The hospital is managed by the Department of Health and Human Services, Tasmania and co-located with the North West Private Hospital.

Each year at North West Regional Hospital there are approximately:

· 8,200 admissions

· 4,500 operations

· 1,810 day surgery procedures

· 19,100 emergency department attendances

· 64,400 outpatient department attendances.

The hospital is a modern 160-bed facility with leafy attractive grounds and magnificent views over Bass Strait.

They are accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.
